This looks like being a superb night featuring young musicians with Ashburton connections. It’s a TRIPLE header. In brief:
Hulabalu features Ash Goulden on bass. Anyone who’s been to productions at South Dartmoor Community College in recent years will have been aware of Ash’s great playing, holding things together in the rhythm section. He’s now at Trinity College of Music in London, and this is the band he’s part of there now. Saff Juno has performed here before and has just released her first EP. The Juliettes is a young band including current students at South Dartmoor Community College. More about them all below…
Hulabalu
Fresh on the London scene, Hulabalu is a new jazz pop band blending laid-back grooves, sharp musicianship, and smooth vocals into a sound that feels both timeless and current. Drawing from classic jazz, neo-soul, and contemporary pop, Hulabalu creates music that’s rhythmically rich and effortlessly melodic. Their live shows are quickly becoming known for their tight arrangements and high energy performances. With a lineup of experienced musicians from across the UK’s jazz, soul, and pop scenes, the band brings a refined but relaxed feel to every performance. Think the warmth of a late-night jam session with the precision of a studio cut. If you’re into artists like Jordan Rakei, Corinne Bailey Rae, or Stevie Wonder, Hulabalu is one to watch.
Saff Juno is an up-and-coming artist on the South West music scene, and has had constant support from BBC Introducing (here she is being interviewed
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0k00kjs); with a spot playing Boardmasters last summer, doing an acoustic ‘Artist in Session’ for their Artist Spotlight, and gaining Track of the Week for her single ‘Escaped the Box’. Saff’s music has themes of empowerment, especially for women, and is often referred to as “an indie-pop fairy”.
Her debut EP, Escaped the Box (released on 15th August) showcases her favourite collection of songs so far on her journey as a musician. Available on all platforms now and as a CD!

The Juliettes (Nelly, George, Raina, Joe and Harry) is an exciting new young band from Devon with a wide range of influences from indie guitar to classic rock, pop and soul. Their debut single “Too Far” blends lush guitar melodies and bittersweet vocals to evoke the fading days of summer.
